The Children’s Workforce Coordinators Group is run by GOL and provides a forum to exchange information across the London boroughs (including partners) on the development and improvement of the children services workforce. It also offers a platform to influence policy development and implementation.
The group has the following key objectives:
1. To identify the key overall priorities for developing and improving all children services workforce across the London boroughs. This will be underpinned by the Children’s Workforce Strategy and contribute to the delivery of the responsibilities within the Children Act 2004 and the ‘Every Child Matters: Change for Children’ programme.
2. To develop a better understanding of the national workforce objectives and the impact this will have at a regional / local level.
3. To provide feedback and ideas on the development and implementation of workforce strategies to central government, Children’s Workforce Development Council and any other relevant body. To make recommendations for change and act as a consultation group for emerging policies..
4. To feed regional issues into the national workforce development forums. The diagram below represents how the Children’s Workforce Co-ordinators group could feed into other meetings and networks.
5. To encourage the sharing of information between local authorities, and the appropriate regional agencies and highlight good practice in London.
6. To consult with group on emerging training and development issues.
7. To feed local issues into regional and national structures.
8. To invite speakers to inform on strategic issues relating to the children services workforce.
9. To provide the opportunity for boroughs to present their experiences and learn from each other as part of their CPD (Continued Professional Development).
10. To identify opportunities for joint projects, joint working activities and where appropriate, joint approaches aimed at improving the children’s services workforce.
11. To produce a structured forward plan for such activities and ensure a project management approach is adopted so that the network achieves outcomes aimed at improving the children’s services workforce. The group have identified 6 priorities:

- Integrated Working
- 14 – 19 Agenda
- Participation of Young People
- Parenting Programmes
- Leadership and Management
12. To contribute to the collection of comparative data for developing strategies / solutions.
