Early Intervention and Prevention Conference

Date: 09 March 2007

Government Office for London led a one day conference at One Whitehall Place on the subject of Early Intervention and Prevention.

The aims of the conference were to:

• highlight and celebrate good practice from across the region in terms of early intervention and prevention work for the 5- 13 age range based on the excellent work of the Children's Fund;
• demonstrate some of the innovative and cost effective approaches in London to improve the lives of children and young people across the 5 ECM outcomes and assess the impact of this preventative work;
• consider lessons learnt from the CF National Evaluation and the joint Treasury/DfES Policy review of children and young people;
• consider strategies used for mainstreaming preventative services at a local level, using LAAs as a tool, and
• consider the VCS’ role in terms of service delivery to some of the most vulnerable children and families in London.

We were delighted that this event was supported by speakers and participants from the DfES, Voluntary Community Sector and Local Authorities. Anne Jackson, Director of Strategy, DfES delivered the key-note address.
